John Burke

John Burke

After leaving Music College, John worked as a professional musician in Germany and Switzerland. Upon his return to the UK, he took up a post as a peripatetic brass teacher, working part time with the Liverpool Music Support Service. John enjoyed music education so much that he decided to gain a teaching qualification. Whilst studying, he met an inspirational teacher by the name of Lynda Nicholson – SHYBB’s Lifelong President. Lynda invited him to conduct the junior band for St Helens Youth Brass Band, a position which he still proudly holds.

Now teaching for Wirral Schools Music Service, John is still very active on the live music scene here in the northwest.

Darren Humphries

Darren Humphreys is a professional peripatetic brass tutor who works in both Primary and Secondary Schools throughout the North West. He studied at Salford University, having been mentored by some of the greatest names in the brass band world during his time there.
Darren currently plays soprano cornet for the First Section Rainford Band and also played for St. Helens Youth Brass Band under the leadership of Lynda Nicholson during the band’s most successful competition run to date.
Darren has a keen interest in improving the overall musicianship of his pupils whilst keeping lessons as fun and enjoyable as possible. He is also well practiced in the art of jazz trumpet, teaches piano and enjoys tutoring at brass workshop days.
One to one lessons are on offer every Saturday morning, at a reduced rate of £10 per 30-minute lesson for members of SHYBB (alternative arrangements for other times can be made if necessary).
