On the 9th July we held our Summer Gala concert at the St Helens Town Hall. The Beginners Band kicked off the evening with a repertoire including ‘Cool F Blues’ (featuring an impressive improvised solo!), ‘Dudelsack’ and ‘Campdown Races’. Conductor John Burke presented the Andrea Taylor Trombone Award and the Saints Trophy before handing over to the Training Band who began their set with the classic hymn tune ‘Amazing Grace’. They followed this with ‘All Through The Night’ and rounded off the first half with ‘The Muppets’, the band definitely has a very secure future in the players from B Band!

After the interval, the Youth Band took to the stage joined by some ex members. They opened with the ‘March Of The Cobblers’, made famous from the film Brassed Off. Becky was the first soloist of the evening, playing ‘Sugar Blues’ which can be listened to here:

The concert continued with ‘Rock Around The Clock’, an original arrangement of the theme tune to ‘Game Of Thrones’ and the ‘Imperial March’ from Star Wars before the second solo, ‘How Can I Keep From Singing’ performed by Freya:

At the end of the concert the 3 bands joined together to perform ‘Russian Folk Dance’, before sending off our wonderful musical director for the last 2 years to the band’s signature tune, ‘The Saints’. The whole band extends our thanks to Gareth for inspiring us and helping us improve as players, and we wish him the best for the future!
